Cat On Wooden Chair

Cat Behavior consultations

Frustrated With Your Cat’s Behavior? You’re Not Alone.

Common issues I can address:

Aggression toward people or other animals

Litter box avoidance

Destructive scratching

Fearful or anxious behavior

Inter-cat conflict

Overstimulation or biting during handling or play

These behaviors can be overwhelming. I’ll help you understand your cat, solve the behavior, and create a calmer, happier home.

Expanding beyond dogs — because cats matter too

Although Fresh Start Canine Behavior was founded with a focus on canine behavior, I’ve always been deeply interested in understanding and helping cats as well. Cats bring their own unique behavioral challenges and needs, and I’m excited to offer dedicated feline behavior support as part of my services. I’m currently taking on new cat behavior clients as I pursue the IAABC Certified Cat Behavior Consultant credential with the goal of sitting for the certification exam once I’ve met the requirements and experience needed.

Many people don't take cat behavior problems seriously but living with a cat who is struggling behaviorally can be stressful, frustrating, and sometimes even unsafe—for both you and your cat.

You’re not alone, and you won’t be judged here. My goal is to help you and your cat get a fresh start. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, we begin with an in-depth consultation to understand your cat’s needs and create a customized plan. This plan may include enrichment and environmental changes, wellness considerations, management strategies, and behavior modification using evidence-based techniques such as desensitization, counter-conditioning, careful pairing, and stress-reducing interventions.

Throughout the program, you’ll receive ongoing support and guidance to ensure you feel confident implementing the plan and maintaining progress. We focus on creating a home environment that supports your cat’s emotional well-being while strengthening trust and communication between you and your cat. The goal isn’t just behavior change—it’s a calmer, more secure relationship for both of you.

"We have 2 elderly cats Lewis and Clark, and they started having new behavioral issues, to the point where we were thinking we might have to put the cats down. We consulted with Sophie, and she was a wonderful [consultant] with a great understanding of both animals and people. Her approach to our situation was very thoughtful and nonjudgmental. Thanks to her insights and straight-forward recommendations, the issues and situation we were having with our cats has largely resolved. I am very appreciative of the peace of mind she [has given] all of us (cats included!)...10/10 I would highly recommend her services for anyone who is having behavioral troubles with their pets- cats or dogs!"
